What is the blue economy and why is it important during the energy transition? Join us to hear from David Hume about why the opportunities for innovation in maritime are wide open and the economic impact of it is more important than ever.
About the speaker:
David is a marine energy manager at the Pacific Northwest National Lab supporting the U.S. Department of Energy on R&D for marine renewable energy and maritime decarbonization. He is also the founder of The Liquid Grid, an online knowledge hub at the intersection of ocean technology, energy, and sustainability. His work experience covers numerous sectors within the Blue Economy including: defense, ocean observation, tourism, marine robotics, offshore energy, and fisheries. When he’s not working you can find him in the San Francisco Bay windsurfing. He holds a BS in Marine Engineering Systems from the US Merchant Marine Academy, an MS in ocean engineering systems management from the MIT School of Engineering, and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management with a focus on energy and sustainability. He is a US Coast Guard licensed marine engineering officer and a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserves.
